In keeping with traditional U.S. support for democracy and human rights, the Council seeks to ensure that U.S. embassies around the world are open to, and approachable by, LGBT and intersex civil society organizations, many of which have reason to distrust government action. We also urge that our government assist LGBT and intersex civil society leaders operating in restrictive environments and facilitate their participation in multilateral fora. The Council supports participation by LGBT and intersex advocates from around the world in meetings and events in Washington, DC and elsewhere, with a view to raising their voices in policy decisions. The Council also regularly connects U.S. government personnel overseas with local LGBTI leader and urges the full inclusion of LGBT and intersex populations in the design and implementation of relevant foreign assistance programs.
